We collect public datasets from agencies like the Census Bureau and HUD, clean them, match their geographic codes, join them, and keep them up to date. Every number on this site is labeled with where it came from and when.
What we add to public data
The underlying government data is free and public, and we say so. You'd pay for the work around it: getting incompatible files into one consistent, current, joinable shape.
- CollectDownload official releases and keep the original files unchanged, with the date we got each one.
- CleanNormalize names, codes, number formats and vintages, and flag any value that doesn't pass a check.
- MatchConnect records with FIPS, GEOID, ZCTA and CBSA codes, not just by name.
